Book a site at the Greenbelt Park Campground, run by the National Park Service. There are 172 sites open year-round, all of which can be reserved and paid for online. Thirty-five of the sites are available to RV users, while the rest are set aside for tent campers. The water is potable, there’s hot water for showers, and there are flush toilets.
If you’re looking for more amenities, stay at Cherry Hill Park in College Park. The site is home to full hook-up RV sites, tent sites, log cabins, large-group cottages, glamping pods, and glamping yurts. Most of the sites include access to the internet, outdoor picnic tables, and fire rings — perfect for roasting s’mores. For added fun, there are two swimming pools, a splash park, a hot tub, and tractor rides.
Hike the 1.2-mile Azalea Trail through the forest, which begins and ends at the Sweetgum Picnic Area, or take a longer walk along the Perimeter Trail, which begins at the park entrance. Be sure to keep dogs on leashes and prepare with water, a cell phone, and a trail map.
Get your kids involved at the park. Grab a Junior Ranger Booklet from the ranger station at the campground. Guided by the booklet, children can earn a badge by completing a park-specific, themed program.

Explore the science of space by heading to the Goddard Space Flight Center run by NASA in Greenbelt. The Visitor Center is open to families to learn more about astrophysics, heliophysics, planetary science, engineering, communications, and technology development.
Head down the road to explore the restored marsh at the Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens. Walk along the boardwalk to view native vegetation, spot birds in the trees, and look out for turtles and fish in the water.
